Wake up, it's Football Season! [Squares]

Well, how about that? Where does the time go, huh? You go to bed one chilly February evening, basking in the happy glow of a fresh Super Bowl championship for your favorite team, and it feels like you wake up the next morning with a whole new season breathing down your neck. Because the truth is that football never really stops - you go straight from the Super Bowl to free agency, to the draft, to minicamps and spring games, to training camp, to another season. There's just no off-season anymore. And I don't know about you, but I'm just fine with it.
So what's new with our game this season? Not much, actually; at least, not yet. I'm working on a few new features for our game that aren't quite ready for prime time yet, so you'll have to wait a little while to see them. I think they'll be pretty fun, though, so watch these emails - and you DO read these emails, right? - for more information about new stuff rolling out. Oh, and one other little thing: we're doing a Week Zero college football game this year for the first time ever. That's right, there's football on your television tomorrow, and you better believe we're gonna play some Squares.
Honestly, I don't know if it's just a matter of luck or crazy scheduling, but this year's Week Zero has got some pretty good matchups. The ACC isn't starting things off with inter-conference games like most other folks; they're kicking off their conference schedule right from the jump. So we're going to play with North Carolina State and Virginia.
NCAA Week 1: NC State vs. Virginia, 8/29/2026, 12:30 Pacific / 3:30 Eastern, ESPN
NC State has been on the doorstep of being a serious contender for the ACC title for... honestly, it feels like years, and every year they wind up somewhere around the middle of the pack - good, never great. This year might be the season they take that step - they've got a tremendous quarterback in CJ Bailey and a defense that looks like it'll be pretty good, but then again, we've heard it all before with the Wolfpack. They're facing Virginia, which is coming off the best season in program history and the Cavaliers boast a roster that's been almost completely rebuilt via the transfer portal. Seriously, they've built an almost entirely new offense that looks like it should be plenty productive, and they're eyeing yet another double digit win season. Nobody should be surprised to see either - and quite possibly both - of these teams around the top of the conference standings come November.
Okay, folks, just the one game this week, but we're gonna have *at least* two for next week, and that means we are off to the races on what will ultimately be a six-month football marathon. Enjoy the game, folks, and you know I'll be right back here next week with more Squares.
